Shopify sitemap checker

A sitemap should list the pages you want in search, at the address each one lives at, and nothing else. Check every sitemap your store publishes, and get the exact change for each problem.

We read your robots.txt and every sitemap it names (and /sitemap.xml), then check up to 150 listed URLs, taken from every sitemap file in turn. It takes about half a minute. Public sites only.

Why a clean sitemap matters

A sitemap tells search engines which pages you want indexed. Every wrong entry, a URL that redirects or 404s, a page marked noindex, or a page whose canonical points elsewhere, wastes a crawl and teaches Google to trust your sitemap less.

On Shopify you can't edit sitemap.xml

Shopify builds /sitemap.xml and its child files (products, collections, pages, blogs) for you, so the fix is always a change in your store: add a redirect for a deleted product, publish or unpublish an item, stop hiding a product from search engines, or fix your theme's canonical tag. That's why each result above names the store change, not a line to edit.

What this check can't see

  • It checks a sample of up to 150 URLs per run, spread across every sitemap file, not every URL.
  • It can't compare your sitemap with your catalogue. The Yieldso app does that: products listed but unpublished, deleted products still listed, empty collections, and products missing from the sitemap.
  • What Google itself reports. Search Console's Sitemaps report shows when Google last read your sitemap and any errors it found.

Keep your sitemap clean automatically

Yieldso re-checks your sitemaps after every crawl, compares them with your catalogue, and stages the redirects that fix dead URLs for your approval.
